Rolling River Safaris established as a tour and safari operator in 1980 has its roots in the heart of Africa. Set up as a family-run safari business in Zimbabwe, initially only catering for a limited number of plains-game safaris, the company grew over the next 26 years of operation, ultimately operating throughout the country with dangerous-game hunts specializing in Cape Buffalo, leopard, hippo and crocodile.
As the principle PH, Phillip Oosthuysen was responsible for all aspects of these safaris from marketing in Europe and U.S.A., liaison with government departments, negotiating and securing hunting leases, the daily running of safari camps, as well as successfully conducting safaris.
Having hunted extensively in Zimbabwe, parts of Tanzania and South Africa, together with his exposure to regional game departments during his tenure as Chairman of the Wildlife Producers Association, Phillip has an understanding of the safari business in most southern African countries.
Thus, when the family ranch was lost in 2006 due to local politics, Phillip relocated to North Carolina with his family. With his knowledge and experience he set up Rolling River Safaris LLC as a safari booking consultancy specifically dealing with reputable operators in Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
In 2020 Rassie Erasmus of Rasland African Ventures invited Rolling River Safaris into an equal partnership. Together they operate the 104,000 acre Majeje Open Hunting Area in South Africa as well as Rasland African Hunting Namibia’s conservancy hunting area. In 2021 a 50% shareholding of Uukwaluudhi Safari Lodge, Namibia was also added to the partnership.
Whether you are a first-time hunter to Africa or a seasoned hunter, Rolling River Safaris LLC offers peace of mind when you book your safari. We deal with a small group of dedicated operators who are established outfitters. We also take care of all your booking arrangements, including flight reservations, B&B bookings if needed, and provide paper-work for temporary rifle import permits as well as organizing airport collection and return.
