Now that Cecil’s demise has rocked the world, the Professional Hunters Association of South Africa (PHASA) has taken a stand against captive-bred lion “hunting”. Their stance: Whoever’s involved in this, will face expulsion. A noble stand, one might say. However, what about all the other captive-bred species? What are the consequences of this stance? Are we, in fact, anywhere nearer to being out of the woods?
Let’s step back a bit.
